I did this post to prove you don't have to spend a thousand bucks to buy a pair of designer shorts. Rolled denim is currently in style, so I thought to take a trip to Edgars to see if they have anything interesting. On the Sale Rail I found a pair of purple skinny jeans in 36. Now, I'm a 32 but with this style of cotton denim you can always have the waist taken in.
Adding bleach to colour dyed cotton reveals an opposing colour that will look professionally dyed if done right. Keep clean, don't over-do it, stick to a style you want and try to have it make sense. In this instance I didn't bleach the back or the belted section, making it look like it was store bought.
When dressing something this loud avoid clashing colours or prints. Diluting it in a sense will make the shorts speak for themselves. Pairing them with more expensive clothing makes it look like it could have been expensive too.
As a final touch, fold the shorts over and up a few times until they reach just above the knee. The jeans cost R100 and bleach no more than R16, considering I spent half an hour with these shorts I'd say it's far better to make something new than spend exorbitant amounts you make not have.
Now go try this and send me your pictures!

Model Minute
Antony Jerram from Red model management heads the 2010 Fall advertorial for Tommy Hilfiger. The ad, photographed for the September issue of GQ was styled by Michael Nash and photographed by Kurt Iswarienko. The check is a must-have shirt for the season and works very well with a suit and styled in this same way.

Having posted David Gandy only yesterday it becomes suddenly clear how similar these two models look. But forget that, where can I get that tie?

REESE WITHERSPOON
MARCO:
My heart skips a beat when I see Reese Witherspoon. She's adorable and sexy and just the epitome of 'Southern Belle'. What's better is she can actually act which makes her that much more of a commodity in this Hollywood Salad of 'talent'. This green Shirt dress is so perfect for her colouring and the accessories make sense. Note to Jersey Shore fans, this is what class looks like.
ROBYN:
On the money. This dress is the definitive main course for a summer fashion lunch. The belt and gold gladiators, the perfect side dish and the straw trilby, a shortcut to a cool iced pudding. But mixed in with all this style-nailing is the fact that it is totally do-able by you. Or me. Or our girl friends. This is not some unattainable fashion mission. It is real. And maybe it loses some magic for me in this truth.
ISAIAH MUSTAFA
ROBYN:
So the delicious Isaiah Mustafa has won an Emmy for his turn as The Man Your Man Could Smell Like (if they didn't use lady-scented body wash) in the epic Old Spice ads. I say well played. On that and this impeccable dinner suit and tie. Modern, sleek and effortlessly cool. Like him. If only he was on a horse, then it would be perfect. PS: I think that I love him
MARCO:
Not since Barney Stinson appeared before me on-screen have I felt such an instant Bro-mance develop. Often stylists choose a look that wears the actor they dress but if you have any idea who Mustafa is, or more accurately how he smells, you'll see that HE wears THAT suit. Catch his Hilarious Old Spice commercial below. Now excuse me while I look for a stable in Cape Town...

Men's Health Denim Guide

Branching to an online market, Mens Health magazine has plans to teach you how to buy the perfect pair of jeans. And not only that but they explain all the other questions you may have, and some you don't but are interesting nonetheless. Of course you could always just read the article I wrote in May. I'm kidding, go take a good look around. If you prefer the print version they have also gone into detail in their September Issue, which if I may say is the best I've read in a while.
Find your perfect fit!

David Gandy was spotted at the V Festival on the 21st wearing a pair of Larkee jeans from Diesel. There have been mentions online that this is a new version of Levan but in fact it's a new version of Lemmen, which coincidentally I pulled out of my closet today for the first time in over a year. Maybe it's his build or the way he's standing but these jeans seem to fit him a little more snug than mine. Especially around the calf. Perhaps he had his tailored to be more slim. It's a tough denim that will need some wearing in but still a great option because it's quite a masculine build. You know, like Gandy.

Available in Diesel stores nationwide! (021 425 5779)

Paul Smith MAN 2

You may already assume that Paul Smith's follow up to MAN is a mere update with a few extra notes, but MAN 2 is vastly different to it's predecessor. Containing an invigorating explosion of citrus; grapefruit and mandarin with the added English touch of Granny Smith apples.
The spicy heart really warms on the skin with a combination of nutmeg, cardamom and cinnamon and is then softened by touch of lavender and cashmere wood. The sensual woody base is a real cool Paul Smith touch, cedar and sandalwood with the clean note of white musk.
Available for R550 for 100ml or R390 for R50ml. (Call 011-477-1074)

MESSY BED, MESSY HEAD

New Years Day, Ramadaan and Spring. These are just some of the events that mark the start of a new beginning. Sometimes work and life get’s the better of us and we find ourselves in need of a change mid-year. This is good, in fact I encourage it.There’s a term you may not be familiar with; Messy Bed, Messy Head. My mother used this on me in my teen years if my grades were down and rendering this (closet clutter) should affect your situation for the better...

Carolina Herrera is one of today's most celebrated and important designers. Of course up until now we haven't seen much for her male followers. There were successful fragrances but nothing to mirror the artistry of her womenswear. Now for FALL 2010 Victor Norlander jumps aboard as front man for Herrera's diffusion line "CH", which includes looks and quality that is both relevant and timeless. Polo necks, Velvet jackets and coats, all luxuriously on par with the aesthetic we have come to expect from Herrera.
